CRYOSURGERY, AN ADVANCED METHOD AGAINST CANCER

CRIOCIRUGÍA, UN AVANZADO MÉTODO CONTRA EL CÁNCER

According to experts, at some point in their lives, almost 40 percent of the population develops some type of cancer, and in more than half of the cases this disease is curable if it is diagnosed in time.

In the fight against this disease, various techniques have been developed for its treatment and traditional radiotherapy, which is under discussion for the relative benefits, can in many cases be replaced by the high-tech ones of cryosurgery. Cancer cells tend to divide rapidly, growing without control and when radiotherapy is applied, it destroys diseased cells but also healthy tissue, in addition to which a minimum of 10 sessions lasting approximately one hour is required.

In cases of prostate and breast cancers, radiation therapy affects other organs and it is very likely that a second cancer will develop. While cryosurgery or cryoablation consists of freezing the tissue and preventing the spread of cancer cells, as well as microwave ablation, with which heat is applied between 80 and 110 degrees Celsius to necrose the tumor, they are less invasive.
